Notes
Will
He made his will on 15 April 1799, describing himself as "Richard Flagg of Holden in the County of Worcester, Gentleman." The will was filed for probate in Worcester County on December 27, 1799. In the will, he directed that "my wife Grace" should have "the use and improvement of a certain pasture which I have leased to Bezaleel Turner during my life," "the use of one cow & ten sheep," and "all of my house furniture." Sons Samuel Flagg and Francis Flagg were each to receive six shillings; the will indicates that they had already received the rest of their shares of the estate. Additionally, the will stated "if I should die seiz'd of any of the horse kind, I give the same to ... Francis together with my saddle & bridle." Son Benjamin Flagg was to receive "all my farming utensils" and "a gore of land lying between his land and the land I have leased to Turner." Daughter Elizabeth Harrington was to receive his "Great Bible ... after the death of my wife" plus five pounds. Daughter Abigail Whitney was to receive a tract of farm land. Daughter Mary Miller was to receive ten dollars. Granddaughter Nabby Abbott was to receive ten pounds. Grandson Samuel Flagg, son of Silas Flagg, was to receive twenty-five pounds. Additionally, "all the live stock which I shall have in my possession at my decease and have not already disposed of" was to be divided in equal shares between daughters Elizabeth, Abigail, and Mary and granddaughter Nabby Abbot.Endnotes
