The Census indicates he has been married five years, born in Canada, immigrated in 1893, father English, and mother Irish. Also living on the farm is his brother Lawrence and his wife. The dates on James are difficult to understand with his immigrating in 1893, his marriage in 1905, his wife immigrating in 1905 (maybe as date is not clear), and his son's birth and immigration in 1906 in Canada. Perhaps he went back to Canada in 1905, married, went back to North Dakota, and then his wife followed after his son's birth.
In the North Dakota 1915 Census and on his World War I Registration Card, he is listed as having a wife Eva.
In the 1915 North Dakota Census he is living with wife Eva and his two children William and Sylvia.
In 1920 he is living with his daughter on the Christine Swedland farm in Velva as a hired man. The Census indicates he is divorced, immigrated in 1893 and naturalized in 1899. His 14 year old son, William, is boarded and working on a different farm in Velva.
In 1930 he is (Westlie J.) living in Brillian, Ward County as a boarder on the Louie Larson farm.
In 1940 he resides in the Russell Hotel [Russell House - burned in 1945] in Velva.
