"Malta —Glenn Flatt 81, retired teacher and coach, passed away June 1, 2017 of heart failure, at St. James Hospital in Butte.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Malta High School Gymnasium.
Glenn was born in Great Falls, MT on October 30, 1935 to Francis and Bernice (Brown) Flatt. He graduated from Fort Benton High School in 1954, where he was active in football, basketball and track. Following High School, he attended Montana State College (MSU) and graduated in 1958. Glenn was a member of the 1956 national Championship Bobcats and was also on the Bobcat track team.
Glenn became a teacher and coach at Malta High School in 1959, teaching Biology and coaching football, wrestling and track. He coached football at MHS for 30 years and started Malta's wrestling program. Glenn spent almost 57 years coaching track, with his favorite being the javelin. Glenn coached many state champions, both boys and girls. He left the classroom in 1995, becoming the Activities Director. He continued to coach the throwing events in track right up to this year's state track meet in Butte.
Glenn and Judy (Nordlund) were married August 25, 1956 in Dodson, MT celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary last August. They have three children; Tom, Sheryl and Mike.
Glenn was a charter member of the Montana Coaches Association and a Montana Hall of Fame coach. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and member of the Little White Church. He loved his family; the Bobcats, the Mustangs and M-ettes.
He is survived by his wife Judy and three children, Tom (Milissa), Sheryl (Jim O'Connor) and Mike (Ann); grandchildren: Ryan, Riley, Carly, Kelly, Thomas, Kacie, Molly, Misty and Dustin; great grandchildren: Braydon, Savannah, Aria, Chet, Fletcher and Kendall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter and sister, Bernita Shupe.
