Joseph Doane Deacon

(27 Jun 1669 - 27 Jul 1757)

Joseph was held in high esteem in the Eastman/Harwich area holding various government, church, military, and judicial affairs. He was Deacon of the First Church in Eastham about forty years and in commission for the Peace in Barnstable County for about fifty years. Esquire Doane held many offices within the gift of his townsmen.
Some of Joseph's biographical data comes from the section entitled "Gravestones Inscriptions, Orleans, Mass., Page 213" of the New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Volume XXI, January 1867. Included is mention of some twelve children of his two wives; however, it doesn't indicate the mother of each child. Sons Daniel and Elisha settled in Harwich; Joshua, the youngest son, settled in Connecticut.
