The following obituary was published in the Helena, Montana, Independent Record on 10 December 1944:
"CLARE FLATT
Funeral rites for Clare William Flatt, 55, who died suddenly of a heart ailment at the Carpenter ranch on the Boulder, were held here Thursday afternoon and the body sent to Forsyth, where services and burial took place.
Mr. Flatt was a native of Bismarck, N. D., and was born on Jan. 26, 1888. He came with his parents when one year old and with them resided in Helena, Billings and Forsyth. He married Miss Elizabeth Lewis of Hysham on July 3, 1917. They resided in Forsyth and Sanders before coming to this county and residing at Anderson Springs, on the East Boulder for eight years. For the past three years they have resided at the Bryan ranch on Elk creek.
Survivors are his widow, two daughters, Betty, a student at State college and Virginia, a grade school student; also, his aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Flatt of Hysham."
