Thomas Richard Hess Sr. of Star Prairie, Wisconsin died on October 3rd, 2016 at the St. Croix Health Center at the age of 72. Tom was born April 29th, 1944 at the Langlade County Memorial Hospital to Dell and Ida (Karbon) Hess. Tom joined the Army and was stationed in Germany from 1961 until 1964. When Tom returned from serving with the Army, he enrolled in vocational school in Antigo, Wisconsin where he met Barbara Burbul. They were married on October 16th, 1965 in Superior, Wisconsin. They were blessed with three children, Tammy, Tom Jr. and Tanya. Tom worked for North Star Steel for 17 years and from 1991 until his retirement he was the Star Prairie town maintenance man. Tom enjoyed old cars, watching old movies on TV, going to the Brainerd races with his son and always enjoyed the outdoors when he could. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dell & Ida Hess and his sister Della LeMay. Tom is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years Barbara, his daughters, Tammy (Mark) Erickson and Tanya Hess; son, Tom (Carla) Hess; his wonderful grandchildren, Mitchell (Elizabeth) Erickson, of River Falls, Wi. Mike (Allie) Erickson of Glenwood City, Wi. Madeline Erickson of Wilson, Wi. and Pearl Wallin of Woodville, Wi. brother, Jesse Hess of Antigo, Wi. sister, Charlotte Hatfield of Deerbrook, WI. also his brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews. A celebration of Tom’s life will take place on Saturday, October 8th, from 11 AM to 4 PM at the Star Prairie Community Center, 207 Bridge Avenue Star Prairie WI. Interment will take place at a later date at the Parkview Cemetery in Hawthorne Wi.
