Con F. Mayer, 85, Dies on Sunday at His Home Here
Funeral Held Wednesday; Was Foreman at Car Shops for Many Years
Con F. Mayer, 85 years old and an employee of the Omaha Railway car shops here for many years, died early Sunday morning, Jan. 29, at his home at 1223 Fourth street, after a prolonged illness.
Constantine F. Mayer was born October 19, 1864 in Oshkosh, Wis. He came to Hudson nearly seventy years ago and took employment in the paint shop at the Omaha Railway car repair shops in April, 1891. He was appointed foreman of the paint shop in 1909 and he held that position up to the time of his retirement in February, 1934. He was married to Katherine Siege at St. Patrick's Catholic church here on July 1, 1933. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus lodge of Hudson.
Besides his wife, Katherine, he is survived by three brothers, Dr. Edward Mayer, George Mayer and Alfred Mayer, all of Kaukauna, Wis., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held from St. Patrick's Catholic church at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning, Feb. 1, with Msgr. John M. Owens officiating. The pall-bearers were Robert Kinney, Al Bieneman, Lawrence P. Gherty, Gordon Starr, Leonard Casanova and Jacob Ruemmele. Following the services the body was placed in the vault in Willow River cemetery for interment later. The Jasper Funeral Home had charge of funeral arrangements.
