ALMER LEANARD OLSON
Almer Leanard Olson, born in Rushford, Minnesota, August 16, 1894. He came to North Dakota with his father, A. H. Olson in spring at age of 12 years, later the rest of the family came. He grew up there and attended church and school. He worked for Odow Arnold as a mechanic, and hauled gas for Carl Austade. He did some farming and also worked as a mechanic for Albert Anfinson and Fitch Garage. He was a shop foreman in the highway shop at Dickinson, North Dakota, from there we moved to Billings, Montana where he worked as a mechanic and frame straightener.
In February, 1941, we moved to Sacramento, California, he also worked at Redding, California, as a Ford mechanic. While up there we ran into old friends from Hettinger, Mr. Overing and son George, who held a high position at Shasta Dam. We saw them quite often after that.
The government called us so we moved back to Sacramento, California. We both worked at McClellan Air Force Base during World War II. Then he worked for a big trucking company. He retited at age 65 years.
Sigrid Sangsland Olson was born July 11, 1906 in Hudson, Wisconsin. We came out to Regent or Gladstone, North Dakota, when I was three years old. My father got a job as janitor at Hettinger Schoolhouse. We moved to Hettinger by team and wagon. We stopped to visit my uncle and aunt, Albert and Christian Everson.
When we got to Hettinger we could not find a house, so Mr. Starch, the professor, siad why don't you live in the basement of the schoolhouse, and that's where we lived that winter. I grew up in Hettinger, attended school, Sunday School and church. I spent a lot of happy years there.
I live in Sacramento now. I also worked at McClellan Air Force Base during World War II. After that I had my own cleaning shop for 14 years, and retired at 62 years.
Almer has two sisters living at Bucyrus, North Dakota, Mrs. Luella Yoke and Florence Houser and one brother living at Rapid City, Ruben Olson.
Sigrid has one sister living in Hettinger, North Dakota, Mrs. Anna Skogen and two sisters living in Sacremento, California, Mrs. Estella Cartwright and Mrs. Neva Lemm; and two brothers Elmer and Edward Sangsland who also live in Sacramento, California.
