John Edward Karras, 78, of River Falls died at home of cancer Friday, June 2.
He was born in Hudson May 7, 1928, the son of William and Mary (Knott) Karras.
He enlisted in the Air National Guard and U.S. Air Force, where he served from 1948-1952, with staff sergeant ranking during the Korean War.
On June 17, 1952, he married Marilyn Irene Johnson.
He was active at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, where he ushered for many years and was a member of the American Legion Post No.b 121 for a half century.
For more than 30 years, he owned and operated Johnnie's Welding Shop and was a Catholic Knight Insurance agent for 31 years.
His interests included hunting, golfing and restoring antique tractors, and he had a passion for airplaces and flying them.
Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Mary Karras, a grandson, Brandan Jensen, and a granddaughter-in-law, Kristen Morrow.
Survivors are his wife, Marilyn; mother-in-law, Irene Johnson; six children, Nancy (Ric) Pace, Kathy (Randy) Morrow, Ron (Karen) Karras, Monica (Brad) Jensen and Joe (Jill) Karras, all of River Falls and James G. (Margaret) Karras of Hudson; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bob Karras of Hudson, Ray (Vicki) Karras of Fairfield ND and Leo (Marlys) Karras of River Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial, June 7, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church. Burial, with full military honors, was provided by the River Falls American Legion Post at St. Bridget Catholic Cemetery.
