Paul Robert Cudd, Sr., "Grandad,", 86, of River Falls passed away on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009 at the River Falls Area Hospital surrounded by his family.
Paul was born on May 6, 1923, in Barronett, Wis., to John Huntley Cudd and Hannah Louise (Johnson) Cudd.
Paul grew up on the family farm in Beldenville, Wis. with his eight brothers and sisters. He left school in the eighth grade to work on the family farm.
Paul enlisted in the armed forces in 1942 and became a member of Company F 511th Parachute Infantry in the U.S. Army. He served overseas and was honorably dischaged in 1946.
Paul was united in marriage to Janet Katherine Wells on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, 1948. To this union seven children were born.
When first married, Paul farmed with his father and in 1951 Paul traded 18 cows for his first Caterpillar, which began his 34 years in his excavating business, Paul Cudd & Sons. In 1967 Paul developed Cudd's Mobile Home Cout. Soon to follow was his first "potty pumper" purchase.
Grandad's greatest joys in life were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a huge fan of their ahtletic activities, plus local sports teams: the Wildcats, Falcons, Packers and the Minnesota Twins.
Paul was a 59-year member of Ezekial Lutheran Church, Lions Club, Moose and River Falls Emergency Corps, a 55-year membr of the American Legion and a longtime Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 54.
Paul loved spending winters at his home in Florida. He also enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada and Alaska, trimming and cutting down trees, and mowing lawn. Paul spent many hours at the ballpark that he constructed right out his front door, which benefited the River Falls softball leagues.
Paul is survived by Janet, his wife of 60 years; his children, Randy (Vonnie) Cudd, Jeff (Mary Field) Cudd, Pauly (Debbie) Cudd, Roxanne (Bob) Kolashinski, Jill (Mark) Sutter, Penny (Todd) Keith, Jana (Randy) Feyereisen; his grandchildren; his great grandchildren; sister, Arlene Hilden; brothers, John (Dorothy) Cudd and Gene Cudd.
Paul was preceded by his parents; brothers and sisters, Helen (Len) Bitterman, Walter (Betty) Cudd, alice (Lawrence) Johnson, Herb Cubb, tom cudd; and sister-in-law, Clarice Cudd.
Funeral service was held at Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls on Monday, Aug. 31, 2009. Memorials may be given to Ezekiel Lutheran Church or the River Falls High School Wildcat Athletics/Grandad Fund.
