Jean Mildred Veenendall, 70, Baldwin, died on Friday morning, September 12, 1997, at the Park View Nursing Home in Woodville, where she had resided since the previous Monday. Prior to entering Park View, Jean had been a patient at Ramsey Medical Center in St. Paul since June 30th.
Jean was born on November 27, 1926 in the Town of Emerald in St. Croix County, WI, the daughter of Clarence Edward and Freida Isabel (Lange) Peters. She attended Carr Creek Grade School in the Town of Emerald and graduated from Baldwin High School in 1944. She attended Rogers and Benner Beauty School in Minneapolis. She was employed in a beauty shop in Minneapolis until 1948.
Jean was united in marriage to Gordon John Veenendall on April 9, 1947 at the United Methodist Church in Emerald. They lived in Minneapolis until moving to the Town of Baldwin in 1948, where together they farmed until moving to the Town of Baldwin in 1978. Jean was employed as a housekeeper at the Baldwin Hospital from 1978 until retiring in 1992. After retiring, Jean decided to do health home care, so she attended school at WITC in New Richmond to get certified and then was employed by Indianhead Service of New Richmond, doing home care from 1993 until June 30, 1997, when she got sick and had to enter the hospital.
Jean was an active member of the First Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday School during the years that her children were attending. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and volunteered her time at the Baldwin Windmill. She enjoyed collecting bells and plates. She liked to go fishing, camping, and to work crossword puzzles. Jean was very out going and a very friendly person.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Gordon; her daughters and sons-in-law: Faye (Bob) Gartmann, Woodville; Marcia (Jim) Oswald, Maplewood MN; Lori (Rodney) Hoyt, Knapp; Beth Hayes, Downing; one sister, Eleanor (Richard) Sniker, Eden NC; one brother, Curtis Peters, Baldwin; 10 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Services were held Monday, September 15 at the First Reformed Church, Baldwin, with Rev. Phillip Leo, Pastor of Christian Reformed Church, officiating. Brenda Lokker was organist and Sharon Freitag was soloist.
Interment was in the Baldwin Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: four grandsons, Brian Oswald, Jeff Gartmann, Tim Gartmann and Dan Welch; and two nephews, Roger Veenendall and Eugene Veenendall.
