Private funeral services for Mrs. Guri Thoen Lomnes, 84, a former Hudsonite, were Sunday, Sept. 14, from the Smith Funeral home in Kerrville, Texas. Col. George J. McMurray (Ret.) officiated.
Mrs. Lomnes died Saturday, Sept. 13, at Starlite Rest Home in Center Point where she had lived for the past two years.
Cremation services were Monday, Sept. 15 at Mission Burial Park in San Antonio. According to Mrs. Lomnes' wishes her ashes will be flown to Honolulu.
A resident of Texas for the past 13 years, where she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Lomnes was the first woman to serve on the civil service commiswion in the Hawaiian Islands, serving as commissioner of civil service for 14 years.
A native of Hudson, Mrs. Lomnes was a graduate of Hudson High school in the class of 1892. She was assistant postmistress in Hudson for some 15 years, shortly after the turn of the century.
As a young girl she played organ in the Norwegian Lutheran church where she was a member. She was also a member of the Central Union church in Honolulu.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Harry Clark Wisehart (Gwendolyn) and a grandson, Harry C. Wisehart, Jr. of Kerryville, Texas.
