Axel S. Jensen--Obituary
Axel S. Jenson of Superior, was born in Norway, Europe and died at his home, 209 East Sixth Street, on Saturday, August 25th, 1945. A.S. Jenson, third son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nels Jenson Sr. of Seventh Street, this city, was born at Mo, Norway, on March 5, 1885 and came to America in 1891, with his mother, brother, sister and uncle, to join the husband and father, who had come four years previously and had built a home for his family at 1221 Seventh st. Exactly a month from the time they left their home in Norway, they arrived in Hudson, on June 11, 1891, when Axel was six years of age. He attended school in Hudson and later attended Caton College in Minneapolis, Minn. After completing his studies he was employed for several years at the Demurrage Bureau at Minneapolis.
In 1909 Mr. Jenson and Miss Ella Lomnes were married by Rev. J.H.T. Lee, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lomnes, formerly of 409 St. Croix street. For more than twelve years they lived in Minneapolis and Mendota, Minn., where their three children were born. About 1922 the family moved to Superior, Wis., where Mr. Jenson took up the salesman's career which he followed up to the time of his death, and there his family grew to splendid man and womanhood, and when our country went to war, entered the service.
At the death of their father, S/Sgt. Robert Jenson of the Army Air Corps was summoned home from Puerto Rico, coming by air most of the journey; Dorothy (Mrs. Robert Lamb), an army nurse from Salt Lake City, Utah, where her husband, Capt. Lamb, M.D., is alerted for overseas duty. Miss Margaret, WAC, nurse, came home from Camp Carson, Colo., where she has been stationed for the past two years. Mr. Jenson was stricken with pneumonia and had been hospitalized for a week and showed such remarkable improvement that he was released and sent home on Friday p.m. Apparently the strain on the heart was too much, for Mr. Jenson passed away in his sleep on Saturday, August 25 at their home.
Mr. Jenson was a salesman for the H.W. Brace Co., of Superior, for the Duluth, Superior and surrounding area up to the time of his passing away. He was buried from Down Mortuary, Rev. Krein of the 1st Presbyterian Church, officiating at services and burial in Greenwood cemetery, on Wednesday, August 29th, 1945.
Relatives who attended the funeral from here, were Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Jenson, J.H. Jenson and sister Mrs. J.A. Stayberg and Mr. and Mrs. O.E. Lomnes, who went to Superior on Tuesday. The Jensons of Superior are well known and remembered here and their numerous friends and acquaintances extended heartfelt sympathy to the family.
