Rodney G. Hoyt, age 44, of Knapp, died from cancer on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at his home.
He was born Oct. 9, 1957, in Durand to Robert and Florence (Bignell) Hoyt. Rodney was raised in Knapp and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1975. He later graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Stout, in 1985.
Rodney married Lori Veenendall on Aug. 23, 1986, in Baldwin.
He worked at Doboy in New Richmond as a design engineer since 1989, until becoming ill. He had two inventions patented while at Doby as well as getting to travel to their other plants in Switzerland, England and California, working on design standards.
Rod loved computers and creating and inventing many useful mechanical devices at work and at home. He also enjoyed designing and building his dream home. Rod raced stock cars at the Red Cedar Speedway and later raced go-carts with his sons at Thunder Hill. He enjoyed downhill skiiing all over the world, fishing and camping. He loved spending time with his family, especially his sons. Rod was a member of the First Reformed Church in Baldwin.
He is survived by his wife, Lori of Knapp; two sons, Nicholas (age 14) and Christopher (age 11), both at home; his parents, Robert and Florence Hoyt of Knapp; a brother, Randy Hoyt of Westminister, Colo.; a sister, Sharon (Joseph) Susa of Elk Mound; three nephews, Michael, Derek and Sheldon; his maternal grandmother, Genevieve Bignell of Menomonie; his paternal grandmother, Vernie Hoyt of Menomonie.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Bignell, and his paternal grandfather, Daniel Hoyt.
Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002 at the First Reformed Church. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Town of Stanton, Dunn County.
