Individual Details
John Joseph "Jack" Bujalski
(23 Jun 1900 - 12 Nov 1972)
Jack Bujalski, Jan1999
Cuase of death was cancer induced stroke (prostate cancer); Occupation: Station Agent for Soo Line Railroad; Roman Catholic; Immigrated: 29 Dec 1912 to New York City, SS Celtic.
There is some question about his age. It is believed he was born in 1898 or 1899, but his age was "adjusted" so he could travel to U.S. at half-fare. (Both of his daughters give anecdotal evidence of this. He evidently feared deportation initially, then Social Security fraud in his later years, so went to efforts to keep the secret). From notes about my dad: "Jack attended school in Brest-Litovska and lived with his uncle who worked for the railroad in Russia. He was able to attend school with charge as his uncle's son. He minded the cows to pay for room and board. He saw his mother a couple times a year. He stayed with Ludwika and Edward Buccczynski." There are two good newspaper clippings and a four page reminiscence of his days in Poland and the family escape to Stanley, Wisconsin. There are three files in First Choice (in DOSPRGMS on this computer) [NH: that would be Jack Bujalski's computer in 1999] that are the transcript of the Thanksgiving in 1968 that he held us spellbound for three hours as he talked about his life as a boy, in Poland, on the journey, and in the U.S.
