Jack Hill, 82, and husband of Abbie (Saylor) Hill of Anderson, California, died November 14, 1998 at Mercy Medical Center, Redding, California.
Mr. Hill was born September 11, 1916 in Delwood, Illinois. He was a World War Veteran receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service in the U.S. Army. After his discharge from the service, he worked at various jobs in Illinois and Indiana. He had a great love for music and was a member of the "Dixie Land" band in Indiana. He and Abbie enjoyed playing music together.
In the late 40's, he and Abbie came to Garfield County to visit Abbie's family--they ended up spending some time here. They worked for her brother, Lewis Saylor, doing farm and ranch work. Later, they moved to Jordan where he worked for his brother-in-law, Frankie McKeever, doing construction and carpenter work--two jobs they worked together on were the McKeever Apartment House and installing the log siding on the Hell Creek Bar in Jordan.
Later, they moved to California where he worked as a Painting Contractor in Burney, California and also did other building jobs. They lived in Cottonwood, California and Anderson, California for many years where he worked as a maintenance man for the Telephone Company until he retired. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Anderson.
Survivors include his wife, Abbie of Anderson; a son, Rick and wife Pam and two granddaughters of Redding, California. Also, three brothers of Rockford, Illinois, and a sister of Sumner, Illinois.
Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 1998, at the Sacredt Heart Catholic Church and graveside services at the Anderson District Cemetery of Anderson, California.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Charity of their choice.
