Ellen Saylor was born June 12, 1916 to Fred and Emma Dent Loomis in Miles City
in a log cabin by the Yellowstone River. Dr. Figgenshaw, a lady doctor,
attended her mother. Later her mother caught a ride home with two salesmen who
found joy in chasing jack rabbits so Ellen had a bouncy ride home to the ranch
which was most recently resided on by the Ralph Clark family.

Ellen was the middle child of a family of seven children which included Ethel
Clark (deceased), Elsie Phipps (deceased), Edgar Loomis, Ellen, Daniel Loomis,
Fredrick Loomis (deceased) and Clara Loomis Vannoy of Greenough, Montana.

Ellen lived on her parents ranch for seventeen years before she ever came to
town. She went to school through the eighth grade at the Iler school which was
located at the west end of the Loomis and Clark Trail. She began high school
at Jordan, but decided that she would seek work and she went to Miles City
where she found employment as a maid for the Judge O'Hern family. She worked
there for approximately nine months, before beginning work as a waitress at the
Metropolitan (MET) Cafe on mainstreet in Miles City. She worked there about
one year before returning to the ranch.

She married a longtime friend, Woodrow Saylor, in August of 1936. The couple
had three children, Cynthia Murnion, Claude Saylor, both of Jordan, and Marian
Peeler of Boulder, Montana.

The couple resided on Indian Creek west of Brusett most of their married life.
They raised cattle, grain and sheep. She and Woodrow bought a lot in Jordan
and moved in a house. In one large room of the home, she ran a second hand
store and he continued to help his son on the farm. Ellen found many a
youngster a pair of ice skates-- ones they could afford to buy.

Ellen said the highlight of her time was when she helped the youth club, when
her youngest daughter was in high school.

Ellen wanted a vocation and so she learned to do massage work. She went to
school at Billings and took correspondence schooling. She aslo went to
seminar's to attain her license.

She and her husband became snowbirds, traveling south in the winter time,
something they did for approximately 20 years. They also travelled to many of
the states and to Mexico and Alaska. After Woodrow's death, two years ago,
Ellen has been a stay at home tending to the daily needs of the house, and
keeping in touch with her many friends and relatives.

Now her hobby is visiting the residents at the health center. Ellen reads the
newspaper to some of the residents and generally pays attention to them.

Over the years Ellen has enjoyed having her grandchildren and great
grandchildren coming to visit or to stay over. As one granddaughter stated,
"Grandma's house is full of love."
