Death Summons Julia Spracklin
There's a new mound in the cemetery on the hill west of town. Last Sunday many
people from town and country looked for the last time on the wan, immobile
features of one of this community's well-beloved matrons, Mrs. Julia Anna
Spracklin. The Rev. Wm. G. Johnson, pastor of the Presbyterian church,
conducted the impressive service. Songs loved by Mrs. Spracklin in her
lifetime, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," "Near the Cross," and "We Shall See
Him Face to Face" were sung by a quartet, Mrs. Roland Taylor, Mrs. Roy M. Lee,
Mrs. C. F. Wilson and Mrs. H.M. West.
Mrs. Spracklin died at Miles City Thursday, August 13, following a severe
illness that developed about four weeks ago. An injury resulting from a fall
from a wagon in 1918 is believed to have been a contributory cause of her fatal
illness.
Julia Anna Siler was born Sept. 30, 1878, in Nebraska. Her parents moved to
western Iowa when she was 12 years old. In 1897 she married Reed A. Spracklin.
Eight sons and one daughter were born to that union, of whom five sons and the
daughter survive. Her husband died in July, 1938. She and her husband and the
children came to this county in 1915 and settled on a farm 18 miles west of
Jordan.
The survivors are: Amos, Harley, Clifford, Leroy and Forest; and Mrs. Clara
Derenburger. Three brothers, Albert Siler, Colfax, Wash.; Henry Siler,
Snohomish, Wash.; Mrs. Ida Glover, Maumee, Ohio; and Mrs. Eva Amundson, Colfax,
Wis.
Pallbearers at the funeral were: L. H. Nickey, William Hensleigh, Pearl
Pangburn, H.O. Porter, Art Bentley and Claud Saylor.
