Peggy Stanton
Peggy Stanton, 57, of Miles City, formerly of Jordan and Brusett, died on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11, 2003, in her home.
She was born May 24, 1945, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Mario and Anna Zabatta. She joined two sisters, Lucille and Pat. After graduating from Catholic school in New York, she moved to Hawaii where she attended college and worked in a pineapple factory, a candle shop and other things.
It was during this time she met the dashing Ron while attending a party in Seattle, Wash. His Montana charm swept her off her feet, literally. In fact, even the tires of Mr. Stanton's Triumph Spitfire could not stand up to his charisma.
They were married on May 6, 1972, in Queens, N.Y. The couple spent a majority of their life together on Mr. Stanton's farm north of Jordan where they raised three girls, Jennifer, Wendy and Renee. Then Joshua and Rebecca were born between 1981 and 1984. Even with the new additions, Mrs. Stanton managed to maintain a loving household through the chaos.
Throughout her children's school years, Mrs. Stanton could be spotted at a basketball or volleyball game, snapping rolls of pictures and cheering with enthusiasm, sometimes to the embarrassment of all. She also enjoyed the performances of her more musically talented children, Joshua and Rebecca. Even with her busy home schedule, she still spent many hours working on the high school yearbook, working in the high school and volunteering at the health center.
Mrs. Stanton devoted her life to God, her family and an atlas. Known as the nomadic couple, Mr. and Mrs. Stanton built endless memories over land and sea. She loved to travel, with and without her children and grandchildren.
Throughout the years of laughter, joy and love, Mrs. Stanton remained enthusiastically generous and courageous, always thinking first of her family, friends and others.
Her survivors include her husband, Ron; her sisters and brother-in-law, Lucille Link of Highland Park, N.J. and Pat and Jim Miller of Wantaugh, N.Y.; her children and sons-in-law, Kanyon and Jennifer Chamberlin, Joshua and Rebecca Stanton, all of Miles City, Ryan and Wendy Larson of Lead, S.D., and Renee Stanton of Rapid City, S.D.; her four grandchildren, Devin, Alecia and Dezirae Chamberlin and Tate Larson; her sister-in-law, Sue Stanton; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, J.E. and Eleen Stanton, both of Miles City.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, May 15, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the Butte Creek Cemetery in Brusett.
Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home of Jordan is in charge of the arrangements.
