Jacob Absalonsen Flaa

Jacob Absalonsen was born 24 Dec 1858 in Faleide, Stryn, Norway to Absalon Jacobsen and Anne Rasmusdatter Muri. The father was a carpenter and farmer of the Yttre-Eide farm; the mother was a midwife. Jacob was baptized 2 Jan 1859 in Innvik, Stryn.
In May 1873, when Jacob was 14 years old, the family moved to Melhus, Sør-Trøndelag, Flâ Parish, Nergard Nordflâ
farm just south of Trondheim.
Jacob, the oldest son, was the first to leave for America. He left Trondheim around 1882 and emigrated to Farirbault, Minnesota. He was 23 years old.
At age 26, Jacob married Anna Margretha Hendrickson, age 26, on 16 Nov 1885 in Fairbault, Minnesota. She was the daughter of John F. Hendrickson and Sophia E. Hjenrud. Anna Margretha Hendrickson was born 9 Jan 1859. According to the 1900 Fairbault city census, Jacob was a saloon-keeper. He may have been a hotel or boarding house owner in Minnesota.
Jacob and Anna Margretha had five children all born in Faribault:
-Sophia Anna Flass 1887-1973 (Mrs. Carl Holmquist), age 86
-Minnie Flass, died age 6
-Arthur Flaa 1890-1903, died age 13
-Bernhard Henry Flaa 1895-1983, died age 88. Former 2nd LT, US Army
-Abbie Flaa Jenson 1902-2003 (Mrs. Henry T. Jenson) age 101
In about 1917, when the youngest child, Abbie, was 15 years, the family moved to Minneapolis. Abbie attended nursing school at Fairview Hospital and graduated in 1921. Her father did not see her graduate.
Jacob died 11 March 1919 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota and was buried 14 Mar 1919, Maple Lawn Cemetery, Rice County, Faribault, Minnesota. Cause of Death: Hemorrhage, probably from pulmonary tuberculosis. Occupation: 1917-1919 Janitor at Calvary Baptist Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Residence/location: 1917 - 11 Mar 1919, 2608 Blaisdell Ave., Hennepin County, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Anna Hendrickson Flaa died 24 Nov 1935 in Hennepin Co., Minneapolis, Minnesota. Residence 728 14th Ave., SE. Lived there 18 years (since about 1917) and rented rooms. Widow of Jacob Flass. Date of birth 9 January 1959. Age: 76 years, 10 months, 15 days. Housewife. Death information was Bernhard Henry Flaa, their fourth child. Place of burial: Faribault, Minnesota, 27 Nov 1935, Maple Lawn Cemetery. Primary cause of death: should fracture and associated arterial sclerosis, dementia.
