Anthony Joseph ("Tony") Gartmann, 53, of Woodville, died Sunday, Aug. 3, at St. Paul Ramsey Medical Center where he had been a patient for the past three weeks.
He was born April 18, 1944, in the town of St.Joseph, St.Croix County, the son of Robert J. and Thelma Lorraine (Stayberg) Gartmann and graduated from Baldwin High School in 1962.
On Sept. 17, 1976, in Watertown, S.D., he was married to Christine Louise Crowl.
For the past 20 years he was a millwright at North Star Steel in St. Paul and was a member of the United Steel Workers of America Union.
His hobbies included collecting and restoring cars and old farm machinery, especially tractors. He also enjoyed reading, gardening, woodworking and built his own home.
Surviving are his wife Christine; five children, Shawn of Baldwin, Carla of Hudson, and Joseph, Augusta and Matthew, all at home; a brother, Robert J. (Faye) Gartmann of Woodville; a sister Nancy (Arthur) Hawkinson of Hudson and two aunts, Theresa Dierks and Ruth Gartman, both of Hudson.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6 at the Murphy-Troyer Funeral Home in Baldwin.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 7 at the Murphy-Troyer Funeral Home in Baldwin. At the service the Rev. James Kraker of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hammond will officiate and Mary Cody will be organist. The body will be cremated.
Memorials are preferred to the family.
