Married to Natalia from Clarke Co. VA. Elected president of William and Mary College in 1836. Died of pneumonia in Paris in 1846 while on an extended wedding trip to Europe. Buried in Mont Marte Cemetery in Paris. Reburied in 1939 in the Christopher Wren Crypt at William and Mary College in Virginia.
