Her father was Sebastian Weigel , born in 1732, the son of John Martin Weigel , born 1703 in Saalbach, Brandenburg, Germany, and came to America in 1732 in the ship: SAMUEL. After Michael and Catharine were married they traveled to Kentucky. They played a very pioneering part in the settlement of this new country, going to Kentucky before the Wilderness Road was opened by Daniel Boone in 1775. At that time the trail was mountainous , and unfriendly Indians lurked in the thickets at every turn. They settled in Fayet te County, Kentucky, and here their first two children were born. In late 1775 or early 1776, Michael and family returned to Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania and Michael served with the Westmoreland Co Militia in the fall of 1776 when Philadelphia was threatned.Michael and his family lived in Westmoreland County until the fall of 1789, and the rest of the children were born there. In the fall of 1789, Michael and his family, with Timothy Bennet, decided to return to Kentucky. They descended the Ohio River in boats to Limestone, now the town of Maysville, KY. The Indians at that time were exceedingly troublesome on the river. They explored in various directions and decided to settle in what is now Woodford County, near the site of the present town of Versailles. Michael died there in late 1795 or early 1796. In 1800 Catharine, his widow, married William Cochran. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Ohio and settled in the Centerville area. Catharina later went to Clinton Co., Ohio where she died in 1820 and was buried on the William Hoblit farm. after coming to America he shortened his name to Michael HOBLIT occupation: potter after coming to America he shortened his name to Michael HOBLIT occupation: potter
