Individual Details
(1713 - 1751)
Thomas Potts Jr. was born about 1713 in Bristol Twp., Bucks Co., Pennsylvania. He died about 1751 in Bristol Twp., Bucks Co., Pennsylvania. He married Susanna. The marriage was accomplished in a manner "contrary to Discipline of Friends," and on 1 mo. 26, 1733, they made an acknowledgement for their, "Disorderly Walking," which was accepted. This shows that Susanna was also a Friend, but her maiden name is not given. They resided in Bristol Township, and when necesssary for the purpose of distinction, he will be referred to as "Thomas Potts, Jr., (Bristol)." He died about the early part of 1751, and letters of administration were issued to Susanna Potts, his widow, May 29, 1751. Susanna Potts did not long remain a widow, as on Dec. 24, 1751, she married Job Compton. The records of Abington Presbyterian Church have a minute of the marriage. No further account of Job and Susanna Compton has been found in Pennsylvania, and it is supposed that they removed to New Jersey, possibly to Somerset County," where the Compton family have long been established. It was in this County that Thomas Potts, (Miller), formerly owned land and mills. No will or letters of administration of either Job or Susanna Compton has been found. Within the present Century, two persons named Job Compton have died in Somerset County, but the Job Compton, who married Susanna Potts, belonged to an earlier generation then either of these.
