Individual Details
Anne Spinke
(Abt 1620 - Abt 1651)
Notes:
According to Jourdan "Early Families of Southern Maryland, Vol. 3" John Shercliffe married first Ann Spinke by 1647 sister of Henry Spinke and married 2nd by 1651 Ann Goldsborough. Skordas indicates Ann Goldsborough was transported many years prior to 1651.
Early Families of Southern Maryland, Vol. 3, by Elise Greenup Jourdan, Family Line Publications, 1994, p. 232;
14 Oct 1651, John Lewger demanded land for transporting various persons including Ann Goldsborough, now wife of John Shircliffe, some 12 years earlier [1639] (AB&H.150).
Mary (Shercliff) Mills Cissell Dant (she having married first Peter Mills, second John Cissell, and third Thomas Dant) gave a deposition on 11/22/1712 that she was 65 and mentioned her mother Anne and her uncle Henry Spinke.
10/11/1712: Mary Dant(Dent) deposition states "... her father John Shircliffe her mother Ann Shircliffe her uncle Henry Spinke...". [CR:PC:881(MSA No.:SM1-2)]

Good morning,
I recently had some correspondence with another researcher regarding Ann Goldsborough and Ann Spink. He believes they're the same person and after seeing what he had, I agree.
10/14/1651: John Lewger Jr. demanded land in right of the following servants to his father: Ann Goldsborough now the wife of John Shircliffe who was many years since transported into this province .
12/2/1661: John Shircliffe's will names his wife Ann as alive. Also names Henry Spink his Brother-in-law .
10/11/1712: Mary Dant(Dent) deposition states "... her father John Shircliffe her mother Ann Shircliffe her uncle Henry Spinke...".
Ann Goldsborough had to have been transported between 1637 and 1648 as these were the only years John Lewger Sr. was in Md. and "many years since" implies she arrived in the early part of this period. Being a servant, she probably had to serve a minimum of 4 years, so the earliest she would be "eligible" to have married John Shircliffe would have been circa 1642.
To have been the niece of Henry Spinke she must have married a Goldsborough prior to John Shircliffe and prior to entering the colony.
There are no other references to an Ann Spinke and she generates no headrights. The husband John Shircliffe never claims rights for his wife.
