LUKE WHEELER (John1; Ignatius7), born ca 1696, died in 1741/42 in St.
Marys
County, Maryland. He sold to Peter Mills 1 June 1727 100 acres, "Red Bird
Thicket", Prince Georges County. (18) This was acknowledged by Luke and
Prothania, his wife, 1 June 1728. Luke's will, written 30 November 1741/42
and
probated in St. Marys County 3 March 1741 (sic), with Richard Cooper, Mary
Cooper, Ignatius Wheeler (Cooper), Elizabeth Cooper and James Thompson as
testators and his wife Protheser as executrix, gives to his son Ignatius
the
dwelling plantation, 250 acres, "Maiden's Bower"; to sons William, Clement
and
Raphell, parts of "Planter's Delight"; to son Bennet, any of aforesaid
estates
if the owner should die without heirs; to wife, land and personalty; and to
daughters, personalty. (19) "Maiden's Bower" he had inherited from his
mother;
hence, the partition deed of 1763. (20)

Prothezer, who remained a widow until her death in 1785, wrote her will 17
February 1773, and it was probated 25 August 1785 in St. Marys County. It
was
witnessed by Jeremiah Jordon and Matthew Goodwin. In it she mentions
granddaughters Mary Wheeler, daughter of late son Bennett, and Elizabeth
Hoult;
her grandson Joseph Sheircliffe; sons William and Clement Wheeler; her
daughters
Susanna Sheircliffe, Henrietta Peake, Mary Ann Clements; sons Raphael and
Ignatius Wheeler, the last of whom had had "use of his mother's land some
years
past." He was also executor of her will. (21)
