Marriage to Mary HUTCHINS: (1) 15 May 1688 at his own house in Anne Arundel Co., MD. She had previously been engaged to Thomas SMITH. At the 2nd meeting of their "passing meeting" Thomas appeared and "discharged her of any ingagement whatsoever," so the meeting gave its consent to the marriage of Samuel and Martha. (2,4) (3a) Two dates given in West River Monthly Meeting records: 15 day, 3 mo., 1688, to Mary HUTCHINGS; and 15 day, 9 mo., 1688, to Mary HUTCHINS.
Death: (1) Mary THOMAS, widow, made her will 20 Feb 1743. (2) By 1743.

(1) 1674: He held 72 acres of Talbot's Ridge on the North side of West River which was surv eyed.
(1) 1675, 25 May: Will of John MEARS proved. He bequeathed to Samuel THOMAS his silver tobacco-box and suite of clothes "made me lately by Richard ARNOLD."
(1) 1687: After his mother's death, Samuel claimed all her estates by virtue of a verbal will which he alleged she had made in his favor. This claim was resisted by his brother-in-law, Edward TALBOT, and the West River Meeting of Friends was appealed to, to decide the questio n. The Meeting decided that although she had expressed a wish that Samuel THOMAS should be sole heir, she had not given legal effect to it, and that the estate should be equally divided between her several heirs.
(1) 1688, Apr: Appointed to a Committee on "drowsiness" by the West River Meeting.
(1) 1688, 4 Aug: Probably a minister of the Society of Friends as early as this date, when Herring Creek quarterly meeting approved his proposal to attend the yearly meeting at Philadelphia.
(1) After 1698: Rented 200 acres of his Lordship's manor on the Ridge.
