Death
An insight into the man Job Rogers, may be seen in his will. He was very caustic in his dealing with his son Thomas Rogers, willing him basically what was lent to him by his father, Job. And if that was not enough, Job Rogers said in his will that if his son Peleg Rogers should die without issue to give his grandson, Job Rogers, second son of Thomas Rogers, all that he had deeded to his son Peleg Rogers.Will of Job Rogers
In the name of God Amen. The Ninth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Sixty. I Job Rogers Orange County (late dweller in Johnston County) in the province of North Carolina being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my bode and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and Kecommend (correct) My soul into the hand of God that gave it and for My body I Kecommend it to the Earth to be Buried in a Christian like and desant manner at the discretion of my Executor Nothing Doubting but at the general Resurrection I shall Receive the Same again by the mighty power of God an as touching luck worldly Estate where with it hath pleased God to Bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in manner and form following that is today. It is my will that all my Just and Lawful Debts be paid and funeral Expenses.
Item - I give and bequath to my loving wife Mary Rogers one feather bed and furniture together with all other Housel Stuff and Side Saddle and cattle all which is in her own persession with forth shillings a year during her Natural life all which I give in Love on or in stead of her Wright of Dowry and power of thirds of my Estate.
Item - I give and bequath to my Son Thomas Rogers one half of my Land lying on Town Creek and one yoke of oxen Lent to him in time past togather with several other Creatures and Sums of money Lent to him and his heirs or assigns for Ever - but if the a said Land should be sold before my Deceas then I give and bequath to my Son Thomas Rogers two hundred acres of land to be made a title to him by my Executors.
Item - I give and bequath to my Son Peleg Rogers the one half of my Land on Town Creek togather all my land upon Nuce (Neuse) River and all Negroes found to be mine at my Deceas all Stocks of horses Cattle hogs sheeps and all Living Creatures. Further more I give to my son Peleg Rogers all bills bonds and moneys due with all other goods wares merchandise purse and apparrel to him and his heirs and assigns for Ever. Further more if my son Peleg Rogers should Die without issue then I give and bequath to my grandson Job Rogers second son of Thomas Rogers the Land upon Nuce (Neuse) River here to fore given to my Son Peleg Rogers to him and his heirs for Ever. And of this my Last will and testament I make Constitute Nominate ordain and appoint my well beloved Son Peleg Rogers my whole and Sole Executor revoaking and Disannuling all former wills by me here to fore made Rectifiling and Confirming this and none other to by my Last will and testament.
In Witness I Have hear unto set my hand and affixed Seal the Day and year above. Written inter lined before assigned with these word. Late Dweller in Johnston County.
