Notes
Birth
about five months after his father's death. Provision was made in his father's will for " the child unborn," and, also, in the will of his grand-father, who died soon after his father, and before his birthDeath
The following is extracted from obituary notices printed in the Newport newspapers soon after his death, viz :—"His loss is not more severely felt by his immediate connections than lamented by every good man who knew his worth. Possessed of that philosophic calmness and tranquility of mind which result from cultivated reason gaining an ascendency over an irritable constitution, he was enabled and even disposed to do equal justice to all with whom he had any concern. As a citizen he was sol1citous to promote the interest of society; as a friend full of kindness; as a husband and parent equisitely tender, indulgent and provident."
