Individual Details
James Edwin Randall
(15 Jan 1830 - )
Email from Skip Mihoover, dated 16 June 2006:
"... James E. Randall, son of John S. Randall and Amy Wasson. I have just discovered that he was not killed on a wagon train in Utah Terr. His daughter, Sarah Eloisa Randall Orvis wrote a beautiful account of the wagon train trip ( she was about 15 at the time ) and how they were stopped at Utah by the government because of hostile Indians ahead. She stated that they had to stay at Ft. Douglas so her father decided to go with a group of men up to southern Montana to do some mining and make some money. She states that they heard her father was killed on the way back to Ft. Douglas so their mother, Lucy Reynolds Randall, decided to return back east but they only made it as far as Cheyenne. Later on, they wound up in Colorado. So, to make a long story short, this family always thought that their father was dead.
I was going through census just tying up loose ends on some Randall's and I found Moses D. Bush and his wife, Emily (Randall), living in Lemore, Tulare Co., California in 1880. Right next to them is James E. Randall, age 49, blacksmith and listed as brother-in-law. What a shocker!! I looked at 1900 etc. and could not find him again. Obviously someone was given the wrong information in 1869 or maybe there is another story?? ...
