Robert Hanson

(1680 - 27 Sep 1748)

Notes:
Among others, Harry Newman Wright in "Charles County Gentry" give Mary Hoskins as the wife of Robert Hanson but that is an error. Mary Hoskins died unmarried and childless before 15 Jun 1718 when her estate was appraised. Jane and Benedicta Hoskins were the only unmarried daughters old enough to be the mother of Thomas Stone's and Robert Hanson's children. Because of the names of the descendants, I have arbitrarily given Jane to Thomas Stone and Benedicta to Robert Hanson.

Page 96. At the request of the parties, the following instrument of writing was recorded on Apr 21, 1744.
CC. At the request of Colo. Robert Hanson & Violetta, his wife, relict of William Hoskins, late of CC, deceased, Walter Hanson & Elizabeth, his wife, eldest daughter of said William Hoskins, & John Cunningham & Mary, his wife, the other daughter of sd William Hoskins, I certify that I have resurveyed a parcel of land, being part of a tract of land called Lindsey (formerly belonging to the said William Hoskins) lying in CC on the west side of the easternmost branch of Avan River, commonly called Natyany Cr, bounded by a tract of land called the Planters Delight, that part of the sd tract formerly belonging to the Revd Mr. William Maccouchie, now in the possession of the Revd Mr Theophilus Swift, and have divided the said parcel into 3 equal parts, of which of the middle part is for the said Colo Robert Hanson & Violetta, his wife, as her right of dower, the northernmost part for the said Walter Hanson and Elizabeth, his wife, and the southernmost part being for John Cunningham and Mary, his wife. Resurveyed and divided, Feb 9, 1743 [/4] - Wm Hanson, Dep. Sur.
We hereby certify that we approve of the within division, and oblige ourselves to abide by it. Signed Feb 13, 1743[/4] - Robert Hanson, Violetta Hanson, Walter Hanson, Elizabeth Hanson, John Cunninghame, Mary Cunninghame.

Page 162. At the request of Elizabeth Hanson and Mary Cunninghame, the following deed was recorded on Sep 30, 1744.
Nov 15, 1744 from Robert Hanson of CC, Gent, and Violetta, his wife, to Elizabeth Hanson and Mary Cunninghame, daughter[s] of the said Violetta Hanson. Mr. William Hoskins, late of CC, died intestate, leaving Violetta, his widow, wife of the afd Robert Hanson, and 2 daughters /to wit/ the afd Eliz:a who after intermarried with a certain Walter Hanson, and the afd Mary who intermarried with a certain John Cunninghame. At the time of his death, the afd William Hoskins owned a tract of land in CC called Friendship, by which means one third part of the afd tract of land (after the death of sd William Hoskins) became the property of Violetta as her right of dower. Now this deed witnesses that Robert Hanson and Violetta, his wife, for the natural love and affection which they have for the afd Elizabeth Hanson and Mary Cunninghame and for 5 shillings sterling and for other good causes, have given Elizabeth and Mary all the title and claim that they have to the third part of the afd tract of land. Signed - Robt Hanson, Violetta Hanson. Wit - Allen Davis, Richard Harrison. .
