Richard Lewis and wife, to Thomas Potts. Be it remembered that the twenty sixtH day of July, in the year of our Lord 1715, George * * * * orte of the Justices of the Peace of the City and County of Philadelphia, Certifieth arid recordeth here; that the 22d of the same month and year, before hint the said Justice at Philadelphia, aforesaid; came Richard Lewis and Hester his wife; in their proper persons; and brought before the said Justice (Charles Brockden, Recorder of Deeds for said City and County being present,) the writing or con: veyance herein next after entered of record; which they acknowledged tb be their deed, and desired that the sahie may Ihrolled and recorded as their Deed, according to an AA of Assembly of the Province, lately made ihd provided, arid the said Hester; being of full age, and secretly arid apart examined; ahd the cbritents bf the sdid writing distinctly read unto her, willingly consented. Whereupon the said Justice, having certified the said acknowledgement made the day and year in manlier and form aforesaid, under his hand and seal, as the said AA directs, did deliver the said writing tb hie tb Be entered of recrfrd and the same Is entered in these wbrds.This Ihderitdre made the ij* day bf July In the first yeir bf the reign of our Sovereign Lord George, King of Great Britain, &c., dhd in the year of our Lord, 1715, between Richard Lewis of in the
County of Philadelphia in the Province bf Pensilvania, yeoman, ahd Hester his wife; bf trie one part, and Thomas Potts, of ihe City of Philadelphia in the said Province, Victualler, of the other part.
Whereas William Penh, Proprietary and Governor in Chief of the said Province, in and by a certain Patent or Instrument under the the hands of Richard Hill, Isaac Morris, and James Lpgan, his present Commissioners of Property and the Great Seal of of the said Province, for the consideration therein mentioned, did grant, lease and confirm unto the said Richard Lewis; a certain trait or parcel bf lahd (part of the Manor of Gilbert) in the County of Philadelphia, Beginning at a post by the river Skuylkill at the corner of Jonas Potts' land, thence northeast by the same six hundred and forty perches to a post, thence southeast by a line of tnarkt trees eighty four perches, thence by Joseph Richardson's land southwest fifty five perches to the river Skuilkill, thence by the same, etc.
