Tax records from 1767 indicate that James owned a farm of 150 acres, 4horses, 4 cattle, and 6 sheep for which was taxed 13 pounds. He alsobought a grist mill from Jeremiah Pierson in West Nantmeal now known asthe Lewis Mill. The Lewis Family operated three grist mills at thetime, one on Lewis Mill Road, one on Bollinger Road and one on CupolaRoad.Event

The will of James Lewis was filed on April 18, 1815 in Berks, County,PA. The will provide for sons James and Curtis to receive the plantatinwher I live, 140 acres for 300 pounds. To son Nehemiah 4 tracts inCumru and 2 tracts in the "Flying Hills" for 1100 pounds. Akk estatedivided into 8 equal shares to sone James, children of son William,deceased, Richard, John, Curtis, Nehemiah, Abigail wife of Henry Lutzand Eleanor wife of Wm.
