F.B. "Mike" Wysong Jr., 80, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at Winchester, Va., Medical Center. Born Feb. 14, 1931, in Charles Town, he was the son of Forrest Brown Wysong and Lucy Carrell (Skinner) Wysong. F.B., Mike or Bud, whichever you chose to call him, retired after 36 years from the West Virginia Department of Agriculture as a field and stockyard animal health inspector. He also owned and operated, with his family, the Wysong Brothers Farm, which produced some of the best country hams in the area. He was a member of Zion Episcopal Church and a graduate of Charles Town High School, class of 1948. He served 45 years on the board of directors of the Jefferson County Fair Association; was a member of the Jefferson County Democratic Executive Committee; the Henry Kyd Douglas Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans; the Independent Fire Company, of Charles Town; the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Company; the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 948; and the Stuck and Alger Coffee Club. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Karen L. (Roper) Wysong, at home; daughters, Elizabeth F. Wysong, of Ranson and Karen Beth Furr and husband, Todd, of Bakerton; daughter/granddaughter, Jade Wilt; grandchildren, Lucy Weatherholtz, Dylan Coffman and Brody Furr; sisters, Lucy Carrell Saunier and husband, Ronald, of Martinsburg, Edna W. Harris and husband, Bernard, of Fayetteville, Pa., and Mary Elizabeth Wysong, of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Charles Locke Wysong and John J. "Jack" Wysong and wife, Sharon, all of Charles Town; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Zion Episcopal Church, 300 E. Congress St., Charles Town, with the Very Rev. Melanie McCarley officiating. Interment will be held at Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.
