Death
HAZELL, Allen D. Of Portage went to be with his lord on Thursday April 15, 2004 after a lengthy illness. Allen was born on October 7, 1921 in Kalamazoo, to the late John and Genevieve Hazell, and grew up here in this area. Allen proudly served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged. On July 2, 1951 Allen married the love of his life, the former Lucille Jackson and together cared for and raised six children who have stuck by his side even unto death. Allen was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his friends and family, making them laugh. Allen was considered a real comedian. Allen was an avid fisherman, sportsman and reader. Allen was a member of the Moose and the V.F.W. post #827. Allen was also committed to the works of his church, being ordained as a Deacon, which was a great accomplishment for him. Allen will surely be missed by his family and all who knew him. Allen Hazell leaves to forever cherish his memory his loving wife of more than fifty years Lucille; 6 children, John A. (Kimberly) Hazell of Portage, Kathie (Jose) Ortiz of Wayland, Dennis Fur of Kalamazoo, Sandra (Lyle Jr.) of Kalamazoo, Patsy Colliau of Pickney MI, and Jackson (Rosalind) of Kalamazoo; 1 brother, Paul (Patricia) Hazell of Portage; also 1 sister, Doris Dollhan of Kalamazoo; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grand-children; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Allen was preceded in death by both parents and 2 siblings. A celebration of Allen's life will take place on Monday April 19 at 12:00 p.m. at the Amazing Grace Baptist Fellowship Church, 10010 Portage Road with Pastor John Cates and Pastor Preston Porter officiating. Friends may meet the family on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Interment to follow service in Fort Custer National Cemetery with full military honors.
