Death
William Eugene "Billy" Furr, 62, a resident of Laurel for 20 years, who grew up in Beltsville, died Sept. 25, 2007 at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney. He was born Nov. 29, 1944, in Maryland. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the Army. He owned and operated W.E. Furr Electrical Company, and worked as an electrician at the University of Maryland from 1969 until his retirement in 2002. He also owned and operated Watt-Miser Electrical Company. He is preceded in death by his father, James Furr Sr., and brothers Albert, Pete and Jerry Furr. Mr. Furr is survived by his wife, Faye Furr, whom he married in 1987; mother, Ruby (Doyle) Furr Bolt, of Laurel; stepdaughter Victoria Opsata, of Bothel, Wash.; stepsons Steve Watts, Tommy Fenton and Harvey Hall, all of Laurel; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret DePaul, of Cape Coral, Fla., Joan Stephenson, of Hyattsville; Mary Slye, of Laurel; Jean Owens, of Gaylax, Va., Dorothy Wright, of Hillsville, Va., Judy Fleming, of Laurel, Fay Nunley, of Laurel, and Bonnie Hall, of Davidsonville; brothers Donald Furr, of Bowie, and Ray Furr, of Laurel; and his dog, Zoe. Visitation was Sept. 28 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave. Funeral services were Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Slye officiating.
