William A. McClintock Jr, 75, a longtime resident of Alexandria, who retired from Arlington County Fire Department after 30 years of service, died Aug 12 at the Fairfax County Government Center, of a heart attack, while at work in the Department of Tax Administration, as reported by his sister, Janet McClintock. Bill had joined the Arlington County Fire Department in 1962, and was among the first responders on the scene when Air Florida Flight 90 crashed into the 14th Street Bridge in 1982, according to his family. After retiring from the fire department in 1992 as a captain, Bill took a job in the Collection Division of the Fairfax County Tax Department. Bill was born in Washington, DC and grew up near Annandale, Va. He graduated from Fairfax High School in 1955. He served in the Air Force for three years. In addition to his sister Janet of New York City, survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sally Furr McClintock of Alexandria; two sons, Brent McClintock of Montclair, Va, and Lance McClintock of Fairfax County; and three grandchildren.
