Death
Teena Furr Strand-Parker, of Bush, died Wednesday, August 24, 2011. She was 52. She was born with twin sister Tracy at Columbian Hospital for Women in Washington, D.C., on June 10, 1959. Teena graduated from Oakton High School outside Washington, D.C., and received her nursing degree from Northern Virginia Community College in 1983. Her nursing career took her to hospitals in Bethesda, MD, Norfolk, VA, Minneapolis, MN, and more recently, Covington, where she served as Director of Ambulatory Surgery at St Tammany Parish Hospital for many years. She had recently begun a new career as an agent for New York Life in Mandeville. Teena is survived by her husband, Dr. Gary Parker; children Alex Strand, Brian Strand and Maddie Strand, all of Mandeville; step sons Tyler Parker and Trevor Parker, both of Bogalusa. She is also survived by her siblings -Tracy Furr Kuzniewski [Pat], of Fort Valley, VA; Todd Furr [Cathy], of Baltimore, MD; and Troy Furr [Karen], of Fairfax, VA. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ann Furr. Relatives and friends are invited to Teena's Celebration of Life at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433, on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Mrs. Teena Strand Parker be made to the St. Tammany Humane Society.Published in The Times-Picayune on August 30, 2011
