TIRO: Danny R. "Witter" Phelps, age 63, resident of Water St., Tiro, died Monday, June 29, 2009 in MedCentral/Shelby Hospital. Born February 6, 1946 in Shelby to Floyd and Nora (Mynhier) Phelps, he had been a Shelby-Tiro area resident the majority of his life. He was a 35-year employee of Miami Systems. Witter was a member of the Shelby VFW, Shelby Eagle's, and the Shelby Owl's Club. An animal lover, he enjoyed being outdoors, growing plants, watching boxing and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Karen Phelps, whom he wed December 14, 1996; one daughter, Dani (Shawn) Furr of Cardington; two step-children, Samantha (Anthony) Roub of Shelby and A.J. Wittig (Heather Cunningham) of Shelby; four grandchildren, Rhylan Furr, Tony and Alex Roub, and Levi Wittig; four brothers, Paul Phelps of Florida, Bob Phelps of Tiro, Gary Phelps of Coffeyville, Kansas, and Kevin Keeney of Shelby; nieces, nephews, and many loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ian Ryder Phelps in 2006; one brother, Freddy Phelps; and his stepfather, Jack Keeney.
