Death
Clyde "Junior" FURR, Jr., 71, of Rt. 3, Smithville, WV, died Saturday, July 13, 1991, in Marietta, OH, while participating in a horseshoe pitching tournament with the Ritchie County Horseshoe Pitchers Association, of which he was a member. He was born in Smithville, Ritchie County, WV, a son of the late Clyde Sr., and Cora HAWKINS FURR. He was a retired meter reader and chart reader with Consolidated Natural Gas near Smithville. He was a former member of the Burnt House I.O.O.F. Lodge in Ritchie County, had participated in the Civilian Conservation Corps as a young adult and was a veteran of World War II with service in the North African and European theaters. He attended Riddles' Chapel Congregational Church in Ritchie County. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Delouris HARDMAN FURR; two daughters, Carol SIMMONS of Rt. 1, Harrisville (Mellin), WV, and Ocie SNODGRASS of Parkersburg, WV; a son, Edward FURR of Smithville; two brothers, Paul "Jack" FURR of Macfarlan, WV, and William "Bill" FURR of Burnt House; four sisters, Eunice CLEVENGER of Shelby, OH, Kathleen GIBSON of Huntington, WV, Patricia SHARP of Vancouver, WA, and Helen WILSON of Lancaster, CA; and six grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a son, Clyde FURR III. Services were held at the Hardman Chapel United Methodist Church, near Smithville, with the Rev. Harlan Hodge officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, WV was in charge of arrangements."Ritchie Gazette" 18 July 1991 pg 6
