Death
Hazel Virginia Wood, 95, of Stonewood died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004 at her home following an extended illness. She was born Aug. 28, 1909 at Gay, Jackson County, a daughter of the late Luther E. and Dove Evans Rhodes. She is survived by three daughters, Ella Mae Furr and husband Fred of Bridgeport, Helen Copley and husband Joseph of Bridgeport and Deloris Malcomb and husband Bill of Weston; six grandchildren, Ginny Harris and husband Cecil of Chesapeake, Va., Donna Hanshew and husband Dennis of St. Albans, Larry Copley and wife Jackie of Elk View, Jeffrey Malcomb and wife Tiffany of Virginia Beach, Va., Kevin Furr and wife Pam of Hurricane and Jennifer Knopp and husband Eric of Vienna; eight great-grandchildren, Kelly Copley, Joey Copley, Katelyn Harris, Cody Hanshew, Alexandrea Furr, Craig Harris, Sam Hanshew and Delaney Furr; and one sister, Hester Littleton of Charleston. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Lawrence A. Wood, on Sept. 11, 1996. The couple were united in marriage on July 11, 1930. She was also preceded in death by five sisters and one brother. Mrs. Wood was a homemaker and attended Stonewood Church of the Nazarene. She bowled in bowling leagues twice a week until two years ago. She also enjoyed crocheting and working on crafts when she was able. She was a people-person and well thought of by those who knew her. Service was Monday at Burnside Funeral Home, Bridgeport with Rev. Dr. C. Michael Hopkins and Rev. Bob Scharnhorst presiding. Interment was in Weston Masonic Cemetery.The Weston Democrat, Weston, West Virginia, December 15, 2004
