Death
Ireta D. Sweitzer, 80, Swanton, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, at the Oakland Nursing and Rehab Center, Oakland. Born May 10, 1925, in Oakland, she was a daughter of the late John C. and Nora D. (Friend) Skipper. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Delbert Furr in 1983, and Carl Sweitzer in 2005; and four brothers, Clesster Skipper, Weaver Skipper, Siber Skipper, and Cody Skipper. She was a charter member of the Rocky Drean Assembly of God Church, Oakland, and was a member of the Garrett County Arts Council, Oakland. She recently had an art display at Garrett College. She was a primarily self-taught artist, studying at Garrett Community College, McHenry, and the Students Art League, New York. She is survived by one daughter, Sonya Craver, Oakland; two sons, John Furr, Oakland, and Michael Sweitzer, Oakland; two sisters, Starr Harvey, Deer Park, and the Rev. Iris Skipper, St. George, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was held on Monday, Nov. 28, at the Rocky Drean Assembly of God Church, Oakland, with the Rev. William Skipper, the Rev. Gail Hixon and the Rev. Robert Collette officiating. Interment was in the Friend Cemetery, Oakland.Endnotes
