Death
STAUNTON — Grover Cleveland "G.C." Ashby, 70, husband of Judy (Furr) Ashby of 76 Foxfield Drive, Staunton, died suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at Augusta Medical Center. He was born Jan. 4, 1937, in Augusta County, a son of the late Carlyle Ashby and Christine (Michael) Wine. Prior to retirement, Mr. Ashby had been employed by Augusta Block Corp. for 36 years as manager of the concrete plant. He was a member of Greenville United Methodist Church and Jollivue-Barterbrook Ruritan Club. In addition to his wife of 47 years, family members include a son, Brent Ashby of Waynesboro; two daughters and a son-in-law, Robyn Jarvis of Staunton and Starla and Jeff Tuennermann of Staunton; his stepfather, Kenny Wine of Deerfield: a brother and sister-in-law, Vaughn and Pat Ashby of Churchville; a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Harrison Hite of Staunton; a half sister, Madeline Campbell of Waynesboro; a brother-in-law, Jon Cook of Grottoes; three grandchildren, Lauren and Christopher Jarvis and Samantha Tuennermann; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special cousin, Jim Ashby and his wife, Donna. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Cook, and a brother-in-law, Robert Campbell. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Kevin W. Haynes. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Ned Sparks, Keith Bosserman, Raymond Desper, A.B. Simmons Jr., Jimmy Marcum, Eugene McIlwee, Rob Rhinehart, Ronald Fornadel and Jim Hinton. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Jollivue-Barterbrook Ruritan Club and former employees of Augusta Block. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at the funeral home and at other times at his residence. Memorials may be made to Greenville United Methodist Church, P.O.
