7 & 8. White and Griffin Vineyard from Randolph Co 9&10 William and Morgan Queen 11. Samuel Covart from Gilmer Co.
12. Shelton Furr
13. Othello Hays
14. Sylvannus White
15. George E. White.
Source: David E. Jackson Collection
three days after arrival in the Sacramento Valley, John Gibson died.
On Nov. 18 in Shasta Co. Jonathan Ireland died.
Shelton Furr and Orlando Hays also died-of clolera.
Cummins Jackson died on 10 Dec.
George White and Sylvannus later became large landowners in Calif. Edward J. Jackson (Ned) eventually returned to Lewis Co. and lived in Jane Lew (Neely home) beside the fire station.
"the death of William Lytle Queen while traveling through the Willamette Valley of Oregon in June 1853 brought the final toll of casualties to six out of fifteen." The latter ref.- Stevens Post Queen, The Queen Family, Early History and Family Tree (Parkersburg, 1941) If anyone has this book, I would be interested in what more is said about the trip west.
It is hoped the manuscript by John C. Jackson will eventually be published in the Jackson Brigade and also the HCPD quarterly if permission is granted. John C. Jackson is the author of several books on fur trading, one of these is on David E. Jackson and is titled Shadows On the Tetons. Jackson Hole Wy. is named for him. David was a s/o Edward Jackson and Mary Haddan, Stonewall's grandparents. David m. Juliet Norris, d/o John Norris.
