MOWEAQUA -Charles E. Mathias, 85, of Moweaqua, formerly of Shelbyville, died 1:15 a.m. Monday (Jan. 9, 1995) in St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Mount Pleasant Church of God, near Assumption. Visitation will be 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Howe & Yokey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Masonic rites at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials: Mount Pleasant Church of God, Shelbyville. Mr. Mathias was born July 25, 1909 in Shelby County, the son of Samuel B. and Leta Edna Stump Mathias. He was a retired farmer and worked for many years at Sears and Roebuck in Shelbyville. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Church of God, Assumption, Jackson Masonic Lodge 53 AF&AM, Shelbville, Shelbyville Chapter 69 Order of the Eastern Star, Fidelity Court 20 Order of the Amaranth, Shelbyville and Pleadies Chapter 57 White Shrine of Jerusalem, Mattoon. He married Mary Ann Furr on March 15, 1936 and she died on Sept. 5, 1959. He married Juanita Pope Brookshier of Oct. 27, 1967. Surviving are his wife; stepmother, Belle Mathias of Shelbyville; and sister, Pearl Jordan of Moweaqua. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Floyd and William Mathias, and sister, Mary Graven.Endnotes
