Death
NEWTOWN — Mirbel Wood, 93, of Newtown, died at 4 a.m. Monday in Community Hospital at Williamsport where he had been for the past three weeks after a fall in his home. He had resided in Newtown since 1884 and was a farmer and straw dealer. He was a member of the Newtown United Methodist Church. Born March 15, 1878, in Camden, he was a son of Rev. Miles and Hanna Wood. He was married to Maude Furr in 1902. Survivors include the widow; two sons, Lester of Newtown and Allan of Jeffersonville; a daughter, Mrs. Avis Lawson of Attica; a brother, Joyce of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Mrs. Lois Earl of Los Angeles; four grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two children, Wayne Wood and Lucille Royer, and a grandson. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Maus Funeral Home in Attica with Rev. Walter Williams officiating. Burial will be in Newtown Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Wednesday.Endnotes
