Death
John R. Miller, 81, of rural Martinton, died Friday (Jan. 6, 2006) at Merkle-Knipprath Nursing Home in Clifton, following a lengthy illness. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, with a 2 p.m. funeral service at Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. Rev. Lee Bacchi will officiate. Burial will be in Delrey Cemetery in Delrey. Memorials may be made to Iroquois Memorial Hospice. Mr. Miller was born Feb. 17, 1924, in LaHogue, the son of John and Dora Furr Miller. He was retired from A.O. Smith, after 35 years as a painter in the water heater division. He served during World War II in the 8th Air Force. He was of the Lutheran faith and loved puzzles, fishing and was an avid Cubs' fan. He was a member of Machinists Local 2059 AOM and the Clifton VFW Post 2131. Surviving are his wife, the former Irene Link Giles of rural Martinton, whom he married April 6, 1974, in Watseka; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Gary and Vickie Glass of Ashkum, Stan and Vicky Giles of Galveston, Ind.; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, LaDonna and Rick Carpenter of Rock Springs, Wyoming; five stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and one sister, Lenore Smith of Centralia.
