MYERSVILLE, Md. - A Damascus, Md., man was killed Saturday morning in a car accident on Interstate 70 near Myersville, according to a press release from Maryland State Police. Steven Charles Furr, 51, was pronounced dead at the scene of the reported 8:39 a.m. crash on westbound I-70 at Harmony Road. Furr's 16-year-old daughter, who was riding in the front passenger seat of Furr's 1991 Mazda Miata, was taken to Washington County Hospital for treatment of nonlife-threatening injuries, according to the release. Matthew David Marshall, 24, of Norfolk, Va., was driving a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire behind Furr in the right lane west on I-70, changed lanes and his vehicle struck the left rear corner of Furr's car, according to the release. The Sunfire spun out of control and went into the median, according to the release. The Miata went up an embankment and overturned, throwing Furr, who was not wearing his seat belt, out of the car, according to the release. His daughter was wearing her seat belt and sustained nonlife-threatening injuries, according to the release. Marshall was not injured, police said. He was issued citations charging him with unsafe lane change and negligent driving, according to the release. The State Highway Administration closed the right lane until about 12:20 p.m. while the crash was investigated. Over the course of the investigation, traffic was backed up about 10 miles from the accident scene, according to the release.

FURR, STEVE (Age 51) Of Damascus, MD, died Saturday, August 26, 2006, in an automobile accident. He was an award winning IT professional for Amdex, a contractor for the Department of Homeland Security. A beloved coach of youth baseball, soccer and basketball. He was considered by many youth and friends of his children to be a second father. He is survived by his wife, Karen; three children, Charle, Sarah and Emily of Damascus. Also survived by his brothers, Tom and Don; sister, Jan Felder; mother, Virginia, all of Cleveland, Ohio; and his in-laws, Joe and Sarah Rice of Damascus. He was a devoted father who was deeply involved in the lives of his children. Family will receive friends at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Rd., Damascus, MD on Thursday, August 31 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 1 at 11 a.m. at Damascus United Methodist Church, 9700 New Church Rd., Damacus, MD. Interment church cemetery.
