Death
Mary Mettille Mary Katherine Mettille, 78, of Ottawa died Dec. 7, 1998, in Community Hospital of Ottawa. A Mass will be at noon Thursday in St. Columba Church, Ottawa. The Rev. Jason Gray will officiate. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, with liturgical prayers at 5:30 p.m., in the Ottawa Funeral Home. Mrs. Mettille was born June 25, 1920, in Ottawa to John and Mae (White) Furr. She married Francis Mettille on Feb. 14, 1940, in St. Columba Church. He died Sept. 16, 1991. She worked in the La Salle County Clerk's Office for 18 years, retiring in 1987, and worked for Halterman Photo Lab. She was a member of St. Columba Church, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and served as an election judge for many years. Survivors are two daughters, Jane Mettille Pichman of Morris and Elizabeth Mettille of Ottawa; four sons, Lawrence (Dorothy) Mettille of Morris, David, Daniel and Matthew, all of Ottawa; a grandson, whom she raised from birth, Thomas Mettille; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Thomas J. Mettille; a brother; a sister; and two granddaughters. Memorials may be directed to the family or to the donor's choice. Pallbearers will be Mark, Todd and Thomas Mettille, Bryan Fowler, Jerry and Clint Halterman and Jack and Doug Furr.NewsTribune, La Salle, Ilinois, December 8, 1998
