Death
John Michael Atterbury, age 72 of Rockville, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at home. He was born in Danville, Illinois on September 11, 1951 to the late Thomas Owen & Edna Mae (Drollinger) Atterbury Furr. John attended North Vermillion High School before he was drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served his country from 1970-1978 in the Army 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. He graduated from Eagle University at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was a certified nurses aide for 12 years at the VA hospital in Danville and a truck driver. He was a mechanic, detailer, classic car enthusiast, John Wayne collector, enjoyed going to car shows, and loved his 1966 Chevelle. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by a sister, Sue Marshall; a brother, David Atterbury; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Larry and Bob Atterbury; two sisters, Pat Bush and Connie Ellis; brother-in-law's, Bryon Bush and Gene Marshall; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Care, 203 S 1st Street, in Kingman on Monday, July 22, 2024 from 6:00 pm till the time of the memorial service at 7:00pm with Pastor Joe Sollars officiating. There will be a Graveside Service with military honors on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 2:00pm (Indiana time) at the Danville VA National Cemetery in Danville, Illinois.Endnotes
